anybody have any experience with the m/p 45? i'm curious how it stacks up against the xd tactical .45?

I like the M&P

I had an opportunity to fire the not-yet-released S&W M&P .45acp pistol at Range day. That was the day before the SHOT Show opened in 2007.
I very much liked the gun. It was controlable with the factory fodder they were giving out and I did manage to put some in the X-ring.
I think the XD is a fine gun too, but if I had to make a choice, the Smith would be it.

Hi

I have an M&P in 45. The production guns are indeed very nice.

S&W was running a rebate deal on the M&P's. It was a very good one. I'm not sure if it has run out yet or not.

hmm, ok then. ill look into it. i saw on another board that the m/p was occasionally breaking strikers, which of course sucks. i handled an m/p in 40 and though it was really fantastic, mind you the xd i handled seemed awfully nice too.

'Til January 31 you get $50 US back and 2 extra mags free. This deal does apply to us.

Hi

I think up there you get $50 Canadian back. That's a better deal with the way the US dollar has been behaving :D :D :D :D

The rebate is actually what got me to pick mine up in .45. I was buying one in .357 Sig and the dealer whipped out the rebate info. After I understood that it was both the mags *and* the bucks, I bought another pistol. Normally they run a mags *or* money deal.

Bob,

I think that Smith is trying to gain back trust and sales that they had lost to other brands...in civilian and especially in security/police!

Hi

With S&W you never can tell what they are up to. I happen to think that the M&P is a very competitive pistol. I think that if they simply knocked $50 off the price it would win over a lot of "hearts and minds"...

We've got two of them with about 500 rounds through each. So far no issues and surprisingly accurate. Recoil is less than expected as the barrel sits nice and low. We're happy with them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The only thing I'm going to deal with is the overly heavy trigger. I'm guessing it's in the 8-9 pound range when new and fairly gritty. It smooths out with round count and gets a bit lighter, but I want something in the 5.5-6 pound range. Lots of great info on MP-Pistol.com including how to do the trigger work yourself.

The rebate is definitely open to CDN customers. We received the free mags within a couple weks and are now waiting on the cheques, as is everyone else. Smith says they'll start shipping in Jan.
