...... so went to the range LATT training today and got to shoot instructor's SW M&P ..... it looks very nice and decent, I was actually considering buying it until I shot it......10 rounds, 3 casing flew back hit my face, 2 over my head, 1 touched my hair, and 3 touched my arms..........

this is awful. is that because of the age of the gun? or it's a design problem? the matter of fact is that I then shot another M&P 45 of his, same thing happened...............i just dont want to shoot that thing any more !!! :(

so i went for a Glock~ damn, smooth and handy, no casing hitting issue, accurate.....now i've changed my mine to go for a 9mm Glock .......

Same thing happened to my wife with an M&P 9. She got frustrated to the point of refusing to come to the range until I got a new sight for my Shadow. Its been talked about all over the internet, some were extractor issues (changed her, no change) and others were chalked up to Grip/wrist/stance. Glad you found a gun you are comfortable with in the end, which is the important thing.

My guess is it's you rather than the gun.
I noticed much the same thing happening when I was first trying out handguns. I was experimenting with grips and noticed that with a loose grip the casings would have drastically different trajectories. At least a few bounced off my glasses, but after I got a firm grip they mostly went to the side.

It might be your grip, and it might be the extractor. Both have been shown to cause the ejection issue.

It was the extractor on my M&P9: After I stoned the mating surfaces and the hook on the extractor, the issue disappeared entirely. A lengthy break-in period would probably achieve a similar result, but I don't think it's something anyone should have to put up with.

Mine was like this when I first started shooting my M&P 9mm. After one or two range trips it stopped happening, not sure if it was improved grip or something breaking in as it was my very first pistol but it's just fine now. I would not be hesitant to get the M&P .45

An Ontario thing :( Club level safety training before they request your LTATT for you. We are spoon fed and hand held in Ontario.

...and it doesn't matter if you have 30 years experience and merely changed clubs; you have to start all over again.

In many cases, very true...

However, upon joining my current club (TMC) as an "experienced shooter" (30+yrs w/restricted+ATT), I just needed to complete an orientation course and be observed during a live fire session. EXCELLENT club!! I highly recommend it.

My Desert Eagle 50AE does that on occasion if my grip is too relaxed.. Is the brass ricocheting off the shooting bay divider wall?

If you're shooting indoors, and are enclosed or divided from the next lane, chances are that the spent casings are ricocheting off of the dividing walls and doing exactly what you are saying. This happens to me all the time, and it has nothing to do with my grip. Try standing a bit further back from the bench, and see if this makes a difference. The real test would be to shoot the gun outdoors, the exact same way, and see if the casings act as they did. I guarantee you that they will not...
