I recently bought an m&p with a range kit and found that the 10 round mags (non pinned) are almost impossible to load the 10th round. I've been looking around for some 10/17 pinned mags and haven't found any except for these:

Does anybody have any experience with them?

Also on a side note has any one tried using .40 or .45 m&p magazines for 9mm? I know it works for some glock mags to get extra capacity.

A very common problem. I just sold my M&P9 with 5 mags, and all of them had the same problem. There is an easy fix. You have to shave the followers. Take the mag apart, and trim the bottom of the followers till they are flush with the indentation. When you take it apart, you will see what I am talking about. Makes 10th round easy. You can also clip the springs to make loading easier.

Of my 3 m&p mags 2 will take 10 rounds and I have to squeeze them in by hand as the loader even won't load the 10th. The other only takes 9. I'm not going to modify mine like on the video too much hassle for 1 round.

I also find that the 10 round mags don't eject freely all the time. The high cap mags have no problem in this department. I bought my M&P from IRG, therefore it came with two pinned mags. After buying one 10 round mag, I ordered more pinned mags from IRG. Those 10 rounders are just not worth the hassle.

Takes all of about 2 minutes...

As the video shows, all you have to do is trim about a tenth of an inch, or a bit more, off the bottom of the follower.

Not only does this make it easy to load the 10th round, but it makes it easier to do a tactical reload (slide forward).

I had to do the same thing to the Glock mags.

And no, the 40 mag will not work with 9mm ammo.

I know these have tight springs. I had Glock mags I couldn't put 10 in but they broke in after some cycles through the pistol and after a while I could load 10 with some effort. The S&W SD9 mags I got aren't hard to load at all.

The 10/22rd 40 Glock mags I bought from IRG pinned at 10.5 are a dream to load. Well worth the money.

Get the M&P equivalent.

As stated, if you want to use the 10 round mags, you really need to modify the follower. The video showed cutting them, but I believe the better way is to put a piece of sandpaper on a table and sand the followers using a circular motion. It makes it even, and you can control it so you don't sand down too far. Sand just enough so that you no longer see the "U-Shaped" indent on each end.

If you want pinned magazines, the best place is to order them from Irunguns. I have five 10 round magazines, and seven 10/17 round mags (as I use basepads that wont fit on the 10 rounders). Be careful, as I had 2 magazines from Irunguns that were pinned at 11.5 rounds instead of 10.5, and I had to re-pin them to make them legal.
