M&P 9mm 9 round magazines?

No, I mean that I can now put 10 rounds easy with the little mod but it is still pretty hard to fully insert the mag with a close slide.

You may need to shave the follower "foot" a hair more. When you insert the mag it has to be able to push the top round down about an 1/8 inch or so before it locks. To make sure you have enough give for this you need to be able to push the top round down at least as far as the top of the mag lips.

I just finished conducting a test on the M&P mags. Like many other people, the tenth round is hard to get in the mag. I took one out to make it 9 in the mag. Clicked in with no issues while slide is closed. So, the issue is between the 9th and 10th round. Would i still need to shave the follower or could the mags be warn in with during break-in?

I have only put 300 rounds down range through my M&P9, but the mags have already gotten a bit "looser", and it's a lot easier to load that last round now.

Just extremely tight. I just got M&P9 and the 10th round is extremely hard to get in. Uplula would actually make it impossible because of the thickness of the tongue. Just keep pressure on and it does fit.

So I managed to stuff the 10th round in the magazines but if you do that you cannot insert a magazine unless the slide is locked back. Which means you can't load condition 3 with a 10 rounder at all.

Not something I expected from S&W.

I hear that!!......kinda, useless IMHO. A candidate for the EE take the loss and go glock. I'm not trying to be a d1<k here. Or perhaps contact Smith and see if they can exchange your mags with ones that, you know...WORK

All 4 of mine have always worked great. I got them in 2008 though. Maybe they are using different springs now and they have more coils and can't compress far enough... Has anyone tried to cut a few coils off? a new maq spring would be that expensive if you screwed one up.

I have M&P9 and can load 10 rounds no problem, I'd take it apart and see whats going on.

That's because you have the previous version of the mag. The newer version have a ''9'' written on it. It is very hard to fit a 10th round. What I did was to take appart the mag, trim the legs of the follower and assemble it. Voila, now it's much easier to fill a mag completely. I have both version of those mags and I much prefer the previous version. Much easier to load.

I'm tempted... I'll give S&W a call tomorrow and see what they will do about it... but admitting they goofed on these mags means they are admitting they goofed on thousands of mags.

Are you talking about the "9" stamped on the follower? That would mean "9mm", not "9 rounds".

I called S&W this morning for you guys. The guy there, Steve, said that he doesn't understand why everyone is calling in and complaining about only being able to put 9 rds into the 10 rd mag. He said that everytime someone sends them back they have no problems putting in 10 rds. He understands that they are a bit difficult but says that it can be done. He said that the mags are made that way so it is impossible to get 11 rds into the mag. He said try banging the mag on the table a few times after every 4 rds to shift the rds around a bit to see if it works better.

The 10th round is always difficult to get in my M&P but it always goes in. They're not my favorite mags to load thats for sure. In fact often i only load up 7 rounds per mag at the range, this started with the M&P cause i hated putting the last 3 rounds in cause it was hard!

lol I know that. 9 stands for 9mm and not 9 rounds. But I find that the S&W argument is bogus. There is NO way to shove 11 rounds even in the previous magasine version.

I have now managed to squeeze the 10th round in (only possible with the mag loader) but now the magazine will not seat in the pistol unless the slide is locked back which is ridiculous. This makes it so you cannot shoot CON3 with a full magazine.

I asked S&W about that too this morning and he said that they never have a problem.

It seems that brute force is required whenever we need to do anything with the 10 round mags. I might modify one of mine and see how it goes. If I do, I'll be sure to post the results on CGN for you all.
