Hey Guys,

Just got new M&P 9mm Range kit and I don't know if this is normal or not but the slide lock functions as normal, locking back the slide after last round is fired. However to release the slide forward I have to put the slide back just a shade to be able to drop the slide release. I have used p226's and other before and not had to do this. So I thought come to my fellow members that have used the m&p series before to see.

Hope to here it is all good.

They can be tight nothing wrong with tight. But I have had one and worked on another that needed to have the lip polished to function properly.

Don't get all worried yet like saskgunowner said run a few rounds and I always run the action while watchin TV or You tube just make sure you PROVE the weapon.

both my mp40 and 9 have very tight releases.

its better to rack the slide back and i never use the release to close the slide, only to hold it open.

The release will lighten up over time. If you want to use the release instead of grabbing the slide then just practice sweeping it with your thumb.

I would chalk it up to new gun stiffness. It will likely loosen up with use.

Contrary to what some will tell you, using the slide release for a reload is a perfectly legitimate technique advocated by a number of reputable trainers. If you can use your support hand thumb to operate the release, it is much faster than racking the slide to release the slide. The slingshot technique is OK, but not preferred, if you have difficulty operating the slide release. The "gross motor skills" argument is invalid; everything about operating a handgun is a fine motor skill.

Thank god someone said it!

I don't know why this insistence of it only being a slide stop still exists. When you stop at a stop sign are you not suppose to continue on your way? "But it's not called a go sign", OH NO! WHAT NOW?!

So you might have to replace an $8 part every coon's age, big deal. If you like releasing the slide with the slide stop then have at it.

should not be using the slide release to drop it anyways. sling shot it.

This is an excellent technique for people who like training 15 years in the past.

For those who enjoy a better way to do a reload, use the slide release. That's why they invented it.

A slide stop/release is designed to be used as a release as well as a stop. When you're watching TV some evening take the gun and work the release for a while and it will smooth out.

Been working at Phoenix gun range in Edmonton (as an RO) the last few months and have seen this many times. Had a few people flag me down asking why they can't get the slide to go forward. You really have to push down hard (I find using your weak hand thumb is better personally) and run a bunch of rounds through it. Even some of the range guns we've had (not just M&P) that are new have had this issue.

As for the slingshot method, yeah it works in a pinch. But using the slide release is much more expedient in my opinion, and all the training I've received over the years backs that up. Not too many places tell you to slingshot anymore.
