was really looking at colt xse commander. curious if these plastic guns will hold up as well over time? how is accuracy? .45 is what im looking for. handled a .40 some time ago and was very impressed with the point and feel.

also, noticed a thread about px4 berettas, how good are these?

According to the local gun shop here, the M&P's are great, I have never handled or shot one though.

If the polymer plastic is anything like glock (which it probably is) they last forever.

I have the M&P9, I bought it the same day I shot a buddies M&P40, They get a big A+ from me. I have also shot 3 different glocks, a beretta 92, a 1911 in 9mm and a few others. The M&P is the only one I had to have.... But thats me, and I am still planning on buying a Glock 17 9mm, and a "Colt"ish .45, but the M&P is tops in my book.

I've had my M&P for about 3 1/2 weeks and I've put 1650 rnds through it, and the only FTE I've had was with some very CHEAP ammo, the fouling was crazy and after 250rnds it fouled the action so bad it failed to operate properly, I've had the best luck with win-clean from winchester, feed and ejects well, and the best part..... the gun and action are clean... I mean CLEAN when you are done. So clean all you have to do is wipe it down and put it away.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I'm on my second M&P 9mm (sellers remorse) 5,000++ rounds with no issues. The 45 has almost the identical grip size/feel (if there is a difference I can't feel it) I've looked around and haven't found anyone saying anything bad about the 45 other than the trigger starts out worse than the 9+40 but does smooth out significantly. Everyone I've talked to who actually owns one has been knocked out by it's accuracy and soft shooting feel. That said, it's a modern gun - there is virtually nothing you can buy to improve it other than ammunition. The 1911 on the other hand is, well ...a 1911. They are the modern day version of a Samurai sword, carefully crafted and subtly modified to their specific owner's taste and needs. The maintenance requirements are higher, and they need more tweaking and balancing than any new gun. Once you get a 1911 where you want it however, they feel like they hit the target by themselves. You may not outperform an M&P or Glock shooter with your personalized custom 45, but you sure as hell will feel like you did. In short they are two totally different approaches to the same problem, pick the one that suits your perrsonality.

and the only FTE I've had was with some very CHEAP ammo, the fouling was crazy and after 250rnds it fouled the action so bad it failed to operate properly.

If you run into that again, just clear the gun, take the top off and spray it with lube 'till it's wet, shake it off, put it back together and continue. You can actually usually just spray down into the E-port on the trigger group, but if the ammo's that dirty you might want to open it. I've run as many as 700 rounds (reloads, lead bullets) in one afternoon.

In my own personal test I ran just over 2500 through my M&P9 before it started FTE's.

Quick scrub of the extractor with a toothbrush and way she went again.

Had some problems when I tried a lighter recoil spring but cleared up when I put the factory spring back in.

I like mine even better since I put a fiber optic front sight on and used a black sharpie to cover the rear dots.

I like mine enough that I am selling my CZ's and will probably buy another 9 and get a .45 for CDP. Much simpler if I stick with one platform for everything.

M&P 9 mm

:D I have the smith m&p 9, I got it new and its got a few thousand rounds on it now. Only problem I had was when I switched the mag release. the mag would fall out from time to time. Switched it back and it stopped ! It is a good fit in my hand everyone who has fired it loves it.

Had one for 2 years now. LOVE IT. Haven't ever taken it apart or attempted to clean it. Have shot factory and reloads. Never a single FTF,FTE. I have challenged my friends to try and make if F@@k up and no one has been able to do it yet. From limp wristing, to 2 finger grip, to sideways, upside down and any other creative methods of firing, no one has beat my challenge. Accurate as all hell. Quick change palm swells allow my son and I to both shoot it at the same event. One quick pull of a pin and I change from my LARGE grip to the SMALL grip for my son. Takes about 10 seconds with no tools. I am never selling this baby.

I have a MP9, and would go with almost anything before it.... the $99 Norkorev I have from Canam is more accurate.

Well thats a whole other set of problems, I am still waiting for some affordable aftermarket sights for M&P, cheapest that I can find how that are high vis and adjustable are like $280.00..... No thanks I'll just aim high and left.

I was on a M&P forum (from down south) earlier today and they have a whole bunch of fixes for accuracy THX... you may be interested, they are all cheap or free, just a little time on your end, I'll post the link up here in a mo.

Cheers
