M&P, P226, or CZ75/85 or SP01

I have been a Glock guy since I started shooting in 1991 and it was my first gun and I still have it and have had many since, as well as pretty much everything out there. But until last year, I never owned a Sig and bought a 226. It was the best gun I have ever shot until I lucked out and found a 228, it is hands down the best all around pistol I have ever shot and even though I love my Glock, I am a Sig convert and will not be going back.

Looks like this guy did some internal dremeling to make weight. Walnut grips and an SP01 magazine would add weight.
After this year my SP01 will look like that with a single action trigger.

Tanfoglio makes all the parts for the Baby Eagle except the barrel, and I've had lots of problems with out-of-the-box Tanfoglios as well. It's a problem with the sear engagement, sometimes they get it right, often they don't. The best Tanfoglio-made gun was the Springfield Armory P9, that was because the assembly was done in the US.

I hasten to add virtually no-one agrees with me on that point, but I do find simply being able to draw and pull the trigger cuts down on mistakes. A DA auto is bit more forgiving of flubbed draws. But you are going to be screwed on stages where the first shot is a long one.
However the key is to keep running that DA trigger until it smooths out (or get a gunsmith to smooth it out), and you get the hang of it. The SA is pull is really good on most P226s, and I've long been of the opinion a pivoting trigger is better than a 1911-type trigger. Which once again, hardly anyone agrees with me on.
I don't agree with Dragoon on the model choice, the X-5 in .40 with an SA trigger makes sense in Standard but I think in Production it's more of an open question which model is best. With the All-around it's nice and heavy so it will hang there and you can easily control it, but I'm just wondering who makes a decent holster for it at the moment. And it's very pricey for a first gun. I think a regular P226 would be a better starting point.
As for the CZs, I had one, I never really liked it that much, the slide release kept breaking. Not sure if that is still a problem with the current production ones, I gave up trying. Happens with all CZ copies (I've owned several) as well, except the Sphinx. The DA stroke feels longer to me than on a P226 as well.

Distracts from some of your other comments. For example you make sweeping comments about Tanfoglios with no basis in fact, you have every CZ slide stop breaking. I have a CZ85 from 1988 with thousands of rounds through it and it has yet to break yet. I have yet here this is a major problen with CZ's but I guess since you had one break they all will.
SIGs are great guns as well and a good choice if the original poster is still looking. They do have a high bore axis which some feel adds to the effect of recoil by increasing mussle flip

I just did my BB Course with a 40cal M&P and liked it. The mag safety was a bit of a PITA. I will continue to use it but just bought a CZ75 SP-01 SHADOW, at the high recommendation of the BB Instructor and a few others at the course...great value for the money with a fibre optic front sight and trigger modifications. Now if my ATT would just get processed

With the SP01 I can keep my shots inside of an ipsc plate at 50m, freestyle... I wasn't able to do that with my Tanfoglio L, or the regular CZ... - this is what I was basing my statement on... Maybe it's mental (a better fit of the gun, etc), but that's what I saw...
Leadfoot, I was informed by the Australian S&W importer that the magazine safety is an option in the M&P, it can be ordered fromt he factory without it, much like thew firing pin block in the SP01. Because of this you can remove it and still be PD legal.
