M&P Smith Wesson 40cal Magazine Problems

Hello all,

Was at the range today with a newly aquired S&W mp chambered in .40. On may occasions while shooting the magazine would drop down and I had not hit the release. I made sure I was not accidently hitting the button, and it seems like the recoil was releasing it ???????/ Anyone else ever had this problem and what solution is there fr this ???

Was it just one magazine, or all of them?

Yea ,I have a M&P9 that would do that from time to time, seems to do that in the early models, there is a fix..........contact S&W and they will point you in the right direction.....................

If you're inserting a full mag with the slide forward you need to be very assertive with the mag, it sounds as if you're not driving the mag in hard enough to lock it (they are very tight when new). Did you have the same issue inserting a mag with the slide locked back, also is this current production, or did you purchase it "previously enjoyed". Some of the early M&P's had mag release issues (pre-revision H guns only) if it's an early gun either Wortners or MD Charlton will replace the mag release. Finally, is the mag release in properly - they are reversible and if the spring is not properly seated in it's slot you can have issues.

As an M&p 40 owner i will definitely agree that the magazines need a pretty good whack to insert with the slide not locked back . Many times i noticed at the range that my mag did not seat properly.

i just shoot till lock back then insert the magazine .

had the same prob changed the mag relase button and all is well.
