I just picked mine up, a late Gen 1.

When I first pulled it out of the box, I was horrified. Then I added a few drops of G96 to the moving parts, and it seems just fine to me... and now it smells like Christmas.

To be honest, an overly light trigger on a striker pistol with no external safety doesn't sound all that great to me.
 
There is also some user feedback that late model M&P 1.0's have better triggers than early models. Mine is just fine and was purchased new in 2016 but I haven't compared it to the 2.0.

In Kanada about 99.8% of handguns are range-only firearms. I agree with you on the trigger for a duty firearm for the extremely tiny number of people in this country that carry their own personal gun for work.

2 circumstances: duty, and faster paced competition.

Though I'd like to thank the posters here for pointing out the obvious. ;)

As I said, personal preference in a personal firearm. You're free to do up your guns how you like.
 
I decided I better try the Apex sear I bought years ago and never got around to installing. Dropped the break by 1-2lbs, but that's it. Not bad, but nothing earth shattering.

Not that I have a the finest sensory set up in the world but I found that the sear changed the nature of the break, crisping it up so to speak. I'd agree that the difference is not life changing but do feel that the Apex sear is an improvement.

As has been pointed out, a bit of oil in the right places makes a difference too!
 
The single most important thing to work on with the M&P is the firing pin block. From the factory it has a ridge just before the dome, break the edge of that ridge, just enough to make it a smooth transition, and polish it until it shines. Also break the edges of the "hump" on the trigger bar that engages the firing pin block. Then simply polish the surfaces of the trigger bar that engage the sear ramp, the result is a trigger that feels like a 2 stage rifle trigger - light take up, crisp break, no false reset.

Sure, shooting 5000 will see a fire control smooth itself up somewhat... but I don't shoot 5000 in a year, and I'd rather invest in a little elbow grease so that when I shoot 5k its lighter smoother and gosh darn it, just more pleasant!

The single biggest criticism of the M&P is its trigger feel, so this is a welcome thread!
 
enefgee nailed it. You might also just go buy the Apex FPB they have domed it for you. Last I looked they are about $28US. Replace the trigger return spring with a lighter Apex one if you want a lighter trigger pull and you are well on your way to a great trigger.

5K does more for you than just smoothing out the fire control, it's the "investment" that will actually make you a better shooter.
 
I bought an Apex kit for the M&P 40 that I had coming. When the gun arrived the stock trigger was pretty good, out of the box. A bit of polishing and it would have been excellent. But I dropped in the Apex, because I already had it.

My first M&P9 was horrid. It really needed the Apex.
