M&P vs STEYR

Handled both, only shot the Steyr tho.

Of personal taste I'd for sure take the M&P over the M-1A. The sights on the M-1A are just fugged up and not very friendly for rapid target aquisition.

Takes a while to get used to. The M-1A also feels like it weighs as much as a plastic tape measure lol. The M&P has some bulk to it which I find just perfect.

It's on my list of toys to get this year.
 
The M1-A can be had with the Trapazoid sights or more traditional rectangular post and notch sights, so if you are holding out getting one based on that, there is an option.
 
I saw an interesting couple of threads on steyrclub.com suggesting Steyr is a done deal, at least in the pistol market.

I'd go S&W, but I think the Steyr might be the better gun.
 
When I was looking for a plastic gun, I got a Steyr… actually I wasn’t even looking for one; I just saw it in a gun store one day, handled it and had to buy one…:)

The gun is very easy to disassemble it’s just like Beretta /Sig; you press the ‘button’ in, turn the lever down and the slide comes right off. When you place the slide back on the lever springs back into place (with 92FS/ Sig? you have to lift it up manually). Also the steel sub frame can be separated from the frame in couple of seconds. I don’t believe it’s as easy with M&P… and there's no mag. or internal safeties either.

that’s funny 'cause Steyr is actually about 4oz heavier… it does feel very light though.

about the sights I find it to be the opposite; the fat front sight is very easy to pick up on the target, not that there’s much muzzle flip; the gun has lass recoil than my heavier, larger 92FS due to super low bore axis. But if you want you can get regular night sights for ~$70US they will even install it for you for free if you’re willing to send in the slide.

Steyr is also smaller and has a ligher stock trigger…
 
I have fired the Steyr, but not the M&P. I found it had little muzzle flip and the sights were actually easy to aqcuire. I did not group well with it at 25 meters, but nobody att he range had; the others found they got really good groups with it at 10 yards. The owner is going to try loading lighter bullet for it; one member of the range was saying that some european 9mm do not like the heavt 147 grain bullets we were feeding through it.

I fired an XD9 the next weekend; i would buy the Steyr over the Springfield for sure, but that is just my opinion.
 
I heard good things about both pistols, but I heard the Steyr sucks for mag changes.(?)
 
Great pistol, but Steyr sucks for the supply of pistol parts. No support from Austria.

To early to tell if the M&P is a proven winner yet...........buy a Glock.;)

lucky you:D .......but Steyr definately has a big problem supplying parts, for their pistols, to the rest of the North American market. They are worse than Springfield:eek:

The angle and size of the grip opening certainly precluded smooth, quick mag changes, even when it was done under direct vision....
 
I handled one at the Nationals that Frank had on display. It was very nice and I liked the grip. the only thing I did not like was the mag well.

really?,better than your Glock? In the Steyr, there doesn not seem to be any room for error as the mag well does not appear to have any type of tapering or angle of the inside of the magwell. Too bad we could not find a picture of the magwell. Hk is the same way, the only thing that helps on the HK is the lanyard loop/hammer spring retainer.
