M&p15-22

Quite admirable. Many people would never in a million years admit to having a change of opinion like that...

Thanks, I'm not here to start fights or fight for some stupid agenda - I enjoy debate about topics that interest me. I know some people take it more seriously than others, and I can't expect anything less than that. But, please know it's not my intention to start #### for no reason.

I try to view everything from a scientific standpoint, when new evidence is shown to me that I agree with my viewpoint can most certainly change. People who refuse to change their views when shown contradictory evidence are close minded and I try to stay as far away from that category as possible.

So I guess this thread (to me, regardless of whether or not I pissed anyone off) was a success.

I can honestly say that my viewpoint on specific ammo, and FA weapons has changed. I still think there should be training and extra steps if you want a FA weapon, and maybe there should still be limitations on belt fed, and extremely large caliber FA weapons (over .50 cal?), but I think AR's and Sub machine guns should be classed similar to a restricted weapons. I KNOW how fun they are, and with responsible use and laws they could stay SAFE as well.

I agree that it's big of you to publicly admit to a change of opinion. Kudos to you. However, I will, as you have yourself stated earlier, agree to disagree about right vs privilege when it comes to firearms.

That's most definelty the fair way to view it. I hope this little bit of controversy hasn't bothered too many people. hehe

Still haven't heard back from the RCMP about the damn M&P15-22... if I didn't know better I'd say they were avoiding me

The fallacy here is that you "need" a "practical" reason to own anything. That's the stage we are at now, where our freedoms are at the whim of whoever is writing the definition of "need" and "practical".

I don't need a reason to own anything. The government needs a reason to tell me why I can't own it.

man, thank you for that excellent post. you are DAMN right, we should not have to give "reasons" why to own any type of firearm, or anything for that matter. Is that what freedom is really about? having a purpose for doing or owning, or buying ANYTHING and everything? f-that. I bought it, I want it, I have it.... because i want it, because it makes me happy.

Should a flamethrower be illegal? Grenade Launchers? Nuclear Weapons? At what point is it too much destructive power? I just want to know where the line should be drawn, I think they did a pretty good job at stopping at FA weapons.... I don't agree with other things the gov has done, as I said with black\green rifles....

This isn't for the sake of trolling, I didn't think I'd piss so many people off saying I agree with no FA weapons lol

In some states in the USA you can apply for class II weapons you just need to submit fingerprints and such, what's wrong with that? You want crazy firepower, be responsible for it. Don't just hand out FA weapons to the public. lol

it's like driving to a MADD canada meeting... drunk. lol just doesn't fit! hahah

i dont know where to draw the line, but I know that years back i was anti-guns of all kinds.. I was younger, stupid, and liberal propaganda and our SHEEP style mentality really programmed me for the worst. I had finally decided to go target shooting at a range with a guy from work, errr I gave in and fired my first shot! after that... well now i own 7 hand guns, and just purchased my first restricted AR15 with a short barrel, this thing is pimped out! very nice rifle, will post pics as soon as i get an att. I absolutely changed my whole mindset towards firearms.

But i do understand you cpynch, when talking about fully auto's, or granade launcher, it's almost too easy to say "yup, no one should have them". this is just past liberal mind programming that needs to be erased, i'm sure it gets in MOST of us sometimes to say things like "no one should have.... (fill in the blank)". i don't think many people would go for the grenade launcher anyway, i wouldn't be interested in that really, BUT, if someone else wants it, go for it! just don't point it at my house please.

i am in absolute favour of "SHALL PERMIT TO CARRY" licensing. someone wanting to conceal carry should be certified, make sure they know how to operate a gun in self defense. I am so for that. I see in the US many more states have adopted shall carry permits for self defense, and crime rate goes down, amazing! unfortunately, in Canada, we are going backwards and soon all firearms will be banned like in the UK. it will be a sad day, and a day that I will be looking for refuge in the US.

As a millwright I am also called to do some machining and metal fabrication work from time to time. If you get a tank I bet you dollars to doughnuts I and many other people on this forum could fire it. With knowledge of reloading and a little research on the internet I could probably make an old school mortar. Am I going to? Probably not.

I also believe that there may be a time citizens will have to form a militia to overthrow a corrupt government. Look at every civilization in history as an example of when this could, or should I say will happen. The first step of communism is a disarmed populace who cannot say $hit about what is happening. I do not have the tinfoil on to tight because this may not even happen in my or my children’s life time. But I do believe if we remain on this road it will eventually lead there.

People who have the means to defend themselves if the time arises will thwart most problems before they happen. I cannot recall his name but look at the Japanese General from WW2. When asked why he did not try and invade US soil his response was because there is a rifle behind every blade of grass. It was not the military he feared it was the will and the capability of the people. Armed people bring checks and balances to government and have the will and ability to protect their freedom and most of all their lives.

i need to pump this post, gave me goose bumps all over... thank you.

YOU ARE MY HERO. SOMEONE GETS IT!!

You want the gun? Jump through the hoops to get it if it means that much to you. Fingerprints, crim checks, psych tests.... FOR FA WEAPONS.

Extraordinary weapons require extraordinary precautions IMO.

I most certainly feel that firearms are a privledge, not a right.

just want to respond to the last statement - it is OUR rights to enjoy OUR property, and if owning a firearm brings me joy, then it is my right to own that property.

ditto... I looked in here to find out about the M&P 15-22, not this squabble.......should have known better

it's actually a good thing that this squabble came to be. If only we could discuss a sensitive topic, such as this, with ALL of the people who are indeed damn right ANTI-GUNNERS, we would definitely make much more progress on how these anti-firearms bills are written. You can't change anyone's mind completely, but at least try to open their minds to other views. The US has a different mentality when it comes to firearms, #1 is to protect themselves and their property, #2 hunting. In Canada, it's only hunting, and shooting paper targets, and that's all we really fight for, god forbid the self defense part, because most people won't even speak about that.

anyways, I see that I'm the only one left ranting on! i should come on here more often instead of trying to play catchup! sorry guys.

back to the AR15.

I just purchased an AR15 (.223), going to get my authorization to SUCK it tomorrow. I was checking youtube and found out there is a .22lr conversion kit for this rifle! that's awesome! buy the real thing, and convert it, have the best of both :) unfortunately, I have searched and searched and searched online and cannot find any stores that have the conversion kit :( anyone here know where I can find it?

Here's the other 22lr rifle that is on everyones wishlist, the GSG-5, which only costs $529 at Green Mountain Guns where I handled it,unfortunately that's in Lakewood Colorado.
