Hi all,

I got an M&P-15 without a flash suppressor and took it to the gun smith to get a suppressor put on.

The gunsmith told me that he's having a lot of trouble getting the barrel off (to thread it) and asked me if it was secured with loctite.

Anyone know?

You'd better check to make certain he has the right tools, 'cause if he's just sticking your upper in a padded vise he can easily over-tighten and crush your upper out of spec. Make sure he's using an action block! You don't ordinarily over tighten AR barrels when doing an install and I've never used loc-tite on one, just a little moly grease.

Barrel removal/change should be a simple, straight forward procedure for most shooters with a modicum of handiness and familiarity with the AR system. You might be in trouble if you gave your rifle to an old timer basement gunsmith who never worked on anything much more complicated than a bolt action deer rifle. Refer him to the "Build It Yourself" page on AR15.com if he needs pointers. I hope it works out for you!

Remind him"lefty loosey righty tighty" :) In the future get yourself an AR tool and remove the barrel yourself, go to fabsports for the AR tool, he sells the ones made by DPMS, I have one and it works great.
