These are made by Walther in Germany. They are not produced (by S&W).
They're expected in April of 2011 with an initial order of 2500 units.
There are two versions 10 and 12 round magazines.

This seems similar to the ISSC M22 ( Glock ) 22 unit. Although the ISSC version seems to be patterned on the Glock 19 ( short Barrel - prohib) where as this looks to be more of a genuine clone so we might actually get to see it.
Interesting to see how it will price vs the GSG 1911.

Smith and Wesson 22 Military and Police (M&P) Pistol. This is a bench-top review, I just bought this from my local gun store today. This pistol is designed to have the look-and-feel just like the M&P 9/40 full-size pistols. It is lighter, sights are slightly different, and it has a ambi-safety and mag-disconnect, but otherwise has the same look and feel as the 9/40 M&P's. I will take this out to the range to do a live-fire test very soon, look for the next video to follow-up.
In this video: I will show what's in the box. I will compare side-by-side with my 9mm M&P. I will check holster-fit with the Fobus Paddle Holster and the Galco King Tuk IWB holster. I will compare the .22 with the 9mm side-by-side. I will dry-fire and give my (preliminary) thoughts on trigger-pull.
I will take this out to the range to do a live-fire test very soon, look for the next video to follow-up.

Yeah...there's been discussion on this pistol since the summer and chances are it might not make it here.
Maybe a special run with a 107mm but who knows.

Since we might never see it in action in our hands, how about some action on YT.

I emailed S&W and asked about a Canadian M&P22 and also a conversion kit. Got this back:

"We are evaluating a CA model. We not planning a conversion kit at this time."

So looks like we might get a 22 version in the future.
