I stripped and cleaned my brand-new M&P 22 and noticed that the end of the guide rod, where it fits into its slot underneath the fixed barrel, is very heavily greased. I left this as it is as it didn't seem to affect the functioning of the slide. But now, I'm wondering if it might accumulate carbon deposits during firing.
Should I take out the guide rod and remove most of the grease, or just leave it as is?
