M&P22 v.s. GSG

I like the GSG a lot, but the finish scratches off wayy to easy.

Adds Character,I prefer the GSG.Here it is with its big brothers:

Just got a gsg, better bet for me as I like to tinker and customize.....I shoot my guns so not very worried about the finish...:)

I have them both. I like the m&p a little better for reliability and takedown. The gsg is a little more ammo fussy. The plus with the gsg is a 1911 just feels so good in the hand.

I just received my Sig 1911-22 (last night) so have not shot it yet. i'm buying some Mini Mags and shooting it tonight.
I field stripped and cleaned it and was impressed with the overall fit/finish of the Sig version. The guiderod bushing is a little wimpy and while the sights are polymer I think they will work...
the ones on my Glock did :)
The size closely resembles my "real" 1911 but its a little light until you insert the steel mag...which is made very well! I can't say much more until I shoot it.
I couldn't decide between the M&P22 or the Sig 1911-22 so I let my son choose. So far I'm good with his choice.

Quoted for truth. The finish starts coming off everywhere. I have both and I still haven't decided which one I like better. I've had the GSG for about 8 months now. I've put around 2,500 - 3,000 rounds through it so far. The things that I don't like about it are the shallow and smooth slide serrations, the sights that came with it, and an allen key is required for take down. Some things that I've noticed are the slide stop notch has been peened out a bit. I've read on here that someone had it peened out so badly that the lock back function doesn't work for him anymore. Some googling shows that some people blame the weak plunger spring as the culprit as it allows the slide stop to bounce up and down which causes the peening. I haven't replaced the plunger spring on mine yet but I plan on doing that soon. It is rather worrisome for me. I've replaced the sights with the front and rear from Dlask and absolutely love them. I also plan on putting in a flat mainspring housing at some point.

The M&P22 feels really solid and well built. I don't have or have handled the the centerfire version so I can't tell you how close it is. I've had it for 3 weeks and I've put around 200 rounds through it. I don't like the narrow rear sights although I appreciate that they are adjustable. I don't like leaving my pistols cocked for storage so I find it annoying that I have to keep using the chamber flag to decock it as it is a internal hammer design and dry firing damages the firing pin. The mag is well made but somewhat poorly thought out in my opinion. On the GSG both sides of the mag have pins to use as leverage to push down the follower. On the M&P22 it is only on one side. Also, if you're not paying attention and allow a round to stand vertically in the mag and let the tension off on the follower, the actual bullet will push past the feed lips and get jammed. The accuracy seems pretty decent. It seems way more consistent than the GSG probably due to the fixed barrel but I haven't fully sighted it in yet. I haven't fired it enough to really make me love or hate it yet. Getting it has made me consider a centerfire M&P as the ergonomics of the rimfire version really fit my hand. My only major gripe is that it comes with only 1 mag and extras are hard to source.

These are only my observations so far as owner of both. I really can't recommend which one because it really depends on your reasons for getting a rimfire copy. If you're seriously leaning towards the GSG I would factor in the slide notch peening.

Love my gsg1911. Nearly 8000 rounds so far, nearly flawless so far, polished the feed ramp just after I got it and that made all the difference... Likes fed bulk, ideally copper washed...... But as you know .22 ammo is so cheap really, I will use whatever I can be...
Good luck....
Oh I removed the finish from the slide within two weeks of purchase.....wasn't going to last... But polished alloy looks great
Import

Yes M, I have both.

Fit and finish...............M&P
Comfort......................GSG
Trigger.......................GSG
Takedown...................M&P
Accuracy....................TIE
Magazine quality..........GSG
Sights........................M&P
Ammo diet..................M&P

Two slightly different platforms...but in the end, I can't see myself choosing one over the other.

Love them both.

I just got back from the range with my new Sig 1911-22.
First 50 rounds were CCI Stingers and ran flawlessly. 32Gr 1650fps copper washed. Accurate but expensive for .22lr
Also shot 150rnds of CCI Blazer bulk (525) and 100rnds Win555's
In total I shot 300rnds with only one failure to fire which occured on the 17th mag loaded with Win555's. The casing was struck hard so probably just a dud. No FTE's, No FTF's! I can't wait to see how it runs once broken-in.

In conclusion, I'm very happy with the Sig 1911-22. Even the cheap polymer sights did their job. It's going to be a fun plinker and good to go with bulk cheap ammo:)
I'll be picking up some extra mags (which I understand are easy to source) and maybe a stainless guide-rod.
The range also had an M&P22 which looked real nice and a Colt/Walther 1911....even nicer but more $$.
I don't think you can go wrong with either HG. Shoot lots for little $$

I have the M&P and have shot the GSG quite a bit.

The M&P has the fit and finish going for it, and mine has been amazingly reliable with only a couple failures in 1000 rounds without cleaning.

I like the 1911 design better but the M&P is just the better gun in my opinion.

I did a review, and 1000 round update awhile back. On my phone up North so can't post the link. Search my threads if you are interested.

I've only got one of the two but I do like my GSG.
It may be picky with ammo but I wouldn't say that's bad, makes you pay attention to what your buying, loading, grip on the gun etc. Keep in mind its only .22lr so the more expensive ammo is what $2 more?
From what people are saying your not going wrong with either. Honestly walk into a shop handle both. I tried 4 different 22s the GSG was the first and none of the others felt as good, I didn't try a M&P but the fit in your hand should be the final choice.

I've never handled the M&P but I own a GSG. I've had it for a few weeks and have put 500 rounds through it so far. I've had about 6 FTF with American Eagle ammo. No problems with CCI mini-mags. I actually did not mind the FTF because it gave me a chance to practice Tap/Rack/Bang drills (better drill than with dummies+unexpected). I love my SA .45 and nothing beats the feel of a 1911 in my hands, so the GSG is the perfect .22 for me.

Yes, the finish on the GSG is crappy. I've done all my shooting from the holster and the slide's finish is getting a beating. But I don't care, I'll have it redone one day. Until then, I intend to beat the sh*t out of it.

If you have the chance, try both before buying. And if you end up not liking the one you get, you can always sell it on the EE.

I liked my GSG but got bored of shooting .22. The finish is weak and when it got just a little dirty it got finicky on the ammo choice. I see many are switching the the M&P now. Looks like there is competition. If I wanted a .22 again I'd just get the kit for my 226.

(GSG)...Has anyone run into the slide lock cut in the slide getting beat out of shape? Mine's pounded out so much it won't even lock back anymore. Mind you I have 10's of thousands of rounds through it, I lost count a while ago.

Sounds like you got your money's worth already. I'm up to 500rnds with my Sig1911-22(after 2 range sessions) with little signs of wear.
I "sling shot" the slide to rack it rather then hitting the slide stop. Hopefully, this wil help prolong the notch. Have you tried to dremel a new notch?

The only real issue I'm having is getting used to shooting this platform again. Can't high hand hold like my Glocks....whats this lever digging into my thumb? Oh yah its an external safety and I keep looking for the trigger reset:)
