I've been running my M&P9 for just short of 2 years now and it's getting up there in round count. Getting close to 15,000 rounds and I'm wondering if it's time to start ordering some new parts and what kind of wear I should be watching out for. All my ammo is factory and it runs like a champ with minimal cleaning. I do not baby this thing, it gets shot a lot and basically treated like a tool.

Also, where can I source parts? I'm tempted to switch to a Glock just for parts availability, but this gun is reliable as they can get.

Parts are available from Brownells. (Keep the total wholesale value of firearm parts in a given order to US$100. or less, or you'll require an IIC and a DOS export permit.)

If you haven't already, you should replace your recoil spring assembly, your striker assembly, and your trigger return spring.

There is a specialist forum for the M&P... M&P Forum ...that has all the info you need, and more. From what I've read there, 15K rounds is hardly more than broken in...

The main things to consider are the recoil spring assembly, the striker and the magazine springs. These are parts that have springs that do a lot of compression cycles If you do a lot of draw - fire to lock - mag change type drills you might want to look at the slide lock, with a lot of that type of practise you'll sometimes notice some wear on the top of the locking surface, if it bugs you it's a cheap part to replace. In fact that's one of the nicer things about the M&P - you can be Captain Paranoid about maintenance and it still won't cost more than a couple of boxes of ammo every 2 or 3 years. Oh yes, and I like to take mine right down every 8,000 - 10,000 rounds and give it a complete detail clean. (I'm really picky)

I'm not having any issues at all, just starting to think I should get the parts now. Too bad Brownell's is out of stock on ...... everything. lol

Might be easier just to buy another gun. lol I'm planning on picking up that VTAC M&P9 and putting the APEX tactical kit in it. I don't see the point in putting new precision parts in an older gun.

This gun gets used for a lot of drills and fairly high levels of abuse.

Guns don't wear old due to age and using it for a lot of drills is what the gun was made for ie use. Putting the apex parts only will improve the trigger for you and make the old girl sing that much better. Go for it!

I'm looking to improve my speed a bit in the next year, but I find the M&P reset is...... well, horrible. At least on my gun.

Canuck44, are you trying to talk me out of buying another gun?!

For shame!!

Hell no. I would go for the Pro, put a APEX duty kit in your existing M&P with the APEX trigger then install an APEX Competition kit in the Pro then go for a M&P Pro in .40Cal. If we start bugging the retailers maybe someone will figure out the M&P Pro would make a pretty good IPSC Standard Gun and then....:D Do you have a decent light for the M&P?

Take Care
