I'm new to pistol shooting and recently bought a new m&p9. I have already put about a thousand rounds through it and plan on putting alot more through it and I have only had it for 3 weeks LOL . I was woundering how long barrels, springs and other parts usualy last for. and what parts exactly I should be looking at for wear. like I said I am new to this and so far I'm mostly self tought so any help or advise would be great.

Thanks

Just keep shooting and you can let us know what wears out and where we can get parts for the new M&P.

I'd keep a spare striker and striker spring just in case, although there's a shooter in the states that is up to 38,000 rounds and he has barely done maintenance on the gun, and he hasn't replaced the striker or spring.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know I shouldn't have to get any extra parts soon.. 250$ a month for ammo just for the handgun plus my rifles is keeping my wallet thin:) The wife might not let me keep shooting that much if she finds out how much I'm spending  ;)

The M&P by far is proving to be a first class reliable handgun. Now have 3 of them and putting as many rounds through as I can reload.

I've had no failures in 3K rounds so far. The trigger reset has developed a noticable double click though which is a little annoying.

Do you (or anyone you know) have a Compact? Given our stupid laws up here I'll never get one, but I'd love to know what the ergonomics are like and how they shoot. (I've decided that when i retire I'm moving to Arizona) :D

Yes, I have the compact. Very nice pistol if you have small hands. Fits my wife perfectly but very awkward for my draw and point.

In retrospect, my M&P compact 9mm is a nice addition to the collection but not an effective CCW or shooting pistol for me. OK for the night stand for people with larger hands. Also, the difference in size is not that great and the compactness only takes away from the ergonomics..............but fine for females & smaller hands.
