m&p9 slide lateral movement?

Sorry i know this is a total newb question(my first pistol) i just got my new m&p9 and it seems like i am able to move the front of the gun(slide/barrel) from left to right. I'm wondering if this is normal

There'll be a little movement, not much. Couldn't give you numbers for tolerance off hand, there is a limit. You definitely shouldn't hear or feel it vibrate if you wobble it in your hand. But, then again, I'm not an M&P consultant, or a gunsmith.

There will be a little bit of side-to-side play, but not much. Real service guns should never be too tight....

Perhaps you should go out to your local dealer and have a look at a gun off the shelf.

Maybe he wanted a gun that could go a few thousand rounds before cleaning and a few hundreds of thousands before it needs 'smithing? - just saying.

Perfectly normal, go shoot the gun. It won't effect accuracy. Barel loxks up in the slide and the bullet is gone before the slide moves.
