I was in the exact same boat, but decided on the Glock 17 after seeing quite a few issues with brand new guns. Someone is gonna come and say im and idiot but if you do your research you will find alot of issues with the M&P. Sights coming off. Mags dropping after firing. Slide lock releasing without activating the release when a mag is reloaded forcefully. For the same money the Glock has proven itself one of the best. Parts are cheap and redily available. Another option is the Ruger SR9. I sold mine for the Glock but that was just cause I got a really good deal, and made money on the ruger sale. I didn't think I liked the glock when I handled it in the store. The grip just felt strange but after shooting a friends I cancelled my M&P, and bought the Glock.
