M1 age

S/n dates the receiver to the September/October 1943 timeframe. As with any MILSURP value depends on originality of parts and condition (lack of rust/pitting, sound bore, condition of wood). To get a better idea on value you might post pics and/or give a more comprehensive description of the condition of the piece incl markings on the various parts, especially the barrel.

All USGI M1 carbines were manufactured between June 1942 and August 1945. Not sure if you can narrow it down too much more than that. Maybe somebody else knows how?

The production run of yours included the numbers from 1,000,000 to 1,349,999. I dont know how this fell into the '42-45 time frame though.

"...How did you narrow it down..." There are books with the S/N ranges by date.
"The M1 Carbine Owners Guide" by Scott Duff is one.

The M1 Carbine Owners Guide by Ruth and Duff provides s/n dates for Carbine production by the various makers with the caveat that dates are approximations. S/n dates for wartime M1 Garand and M1903 Springfield production are more precise.

Thanks guys, thestock has matching # and a W. The cartouch is WRA over GHD. The other mark is something crossed in 2 circles. In the pistol grip is G over 168.It has no notch for peep sight but a adjustable v rear with an H on the side. The trigger guard has a 0. It soprts a W barrel. Blueing is VG & the stock has a few small dings. I have not had the wood off. I'll have to dig out the mag to see if it is marked. It has been in the rack for about 40 years so prob not going anywhere soon. AJ
