FWIW, Cartridges of the World indicates, the .30 Carbine cartridge is not very flexible and is not a particularly good choice for hunting. Because of this, many efforts have been made to improve the performance. However, none of them have been much more successful than the original cartridge.
I am looking at the M1 Carbine in 5.7mm as a small game/rabbit loading, better then a 22LR but not to big.
