I am thinking of buying a restricted M1 Carbine .30cal and would like to replace the barrel making it non-restricted.

Where in Canada or the U.S. can I find a 19" barrel?

Thanks...

buy one allready done please DO NOT destroy a carbine by removeing the orig barrel

you CANNOT without export permits get a barrel from the U.S

Guys, there were over 6 million M1 Carbines made and there are probably at least half a million or a million still left in packing grease in plastic wrap somewhere. Changing one or two right now is not going to make a difference. Besides, most of the carbines out there now have gone throught at least one ot two rebuilds so getting an origional one as issued is gonna be pretty tough. If this fellow had just a run of the mill, standard M1 Carbine, go ahead and do what you want, but tred carefully, there are many collectors who will flame you for wanting to do any mods to a rifle!!

yup there WERE the U.S " supposedly" lost over 1 million after siagon fell in 1975

how many after ww2?

how many after korea?

EVERY m1 carbine in austrila was destroyed a few years ago

how many are turned into the cops and destroyed here in canada every year?

here in Canada if you make an M1 carbine non restricted the CFC will NOT allow you to restore it back wit a GI barrel to restricted

there are plenty of non restricted out there allready as well as commerical models you can bubba.....

how many in the us??

"...probably at least half a million or a million..." Not in Canada or the U.S. Nor any place friendly to the West. The U.S. CMP is asking and getting $495 plus for a carbine.
Unless you can find a 19" barrel, you'd still need a smithy with the right equipment to put it one. As far as I've seen on-line, nobody, Statside, is making 19" carbine barrels.

Problem is in the post 9-11 era military surplus is no longer what it once was. You cannot get contemporary surplus gear from the CF anymore here in Canada, and likewise the US. What do you think the odds are of some cache of cosmo-packed rifles being sold off to the general public? 0% chance with Obama in power I recon. And the same goes for the unissued Browning HP in the CF if they change primary sidarms. If it's in govt. stores now it may as well be in the smelter, as that's where they will all end up.

Hey It's your rifle, but I agree if it's GI sell it,trade it or leave it be.

I got a barrel from Andrew at tradex 2 years ago. My carbine is from the mid 50's so I don't care; It's a shooter and I don't want the hastle of restricted status.

its NOT a very usefull hunting cal

and in my case as its .30 cal it limits hunting in southern ont

honestly I only shoot at the range anyways these days

just remember 20 years from now when you cant find and ORIG USGI m1 carbine YOU destroyed history and YOU are BUBBA!

OK, OK already. You have laid a guilt trip on me. I have purchased an M1 made by Universal which was already non-restricted. I promise not to Bubba an original GI model.

Thanks for everyones advice though. LOL
