I think gunsdora sells non-restr barrels.
But if you want to do that, suggest you buy a Universal, Plainsfield or Iver Johnson.
Guys, there were over 6 million M1 Carbines made and there are probably at least half a million or a million still left in packing grease in plastic wrap somewhere. Changing one or two right now is not going to make a difference. Besides, most of the carbines out there now have gone throught at least one ot two rebuilds so getting an origional one as issued is gonna be pretty tough. If this fellow had just a run of the mill, standard M1 Carbine, go ahead and do what you want, but tred carefully, there are many collectors who will flame you for wanting to do any mods to a rifle!!

Agreed, please don't destroy a war time USGI carbine. I suggest doing it to a Universal, as they are pretty much as far from the original version as you can get from a factory rifle.
its NOT a very usefull hunting cal
and in my case as its .30 cal it limits hunting in southern ont
honestly I only shoot at the range anyways these days
just remember 20 years from now when you cant find and ORIG USGI m1 carbine YOU destroyed history and YOU are BUBBA!
