Hey guys!

During the last CQB competitions in Quebec, one of my friends was using an M1 Carbine. He had failures to eject at least once per time he was up for shooting, causing him to lose a lot of points, of course...

Sometimes, the empty case would partially stay in the chamber and cause double feeds, sometimes it would be a stovepipe. I think it looks like the extractor spring is not strong enough, but I might be wrong... Is this an "ordinary" problem for the M1 Carbine? The guy was using Winchester White Box ammo. Could this be the problem?

Thanks!

I would first inspect the bolt to make sure there is an extractor spring in place. Sounds like it's missing. Ensure the extractor spring guide is seated properly on the extractor. It is very small and can be assembled 2 ways, correct and incorrect.

A special M1 Carbine bolt disassembly tool should be used to do this.

Also inspect the extractor (lip) itself, these have been known to break over the course of useage.
