M1 Carbine, hand guard pops off

While shooting the m1 carbine, a couple mags in, if the HG isn't being held, it'll pop off.
Would the wood shrink enough for this to happen?
Or am I doing something wrong.

well is it a gi or commerical one??

how many rivits on the wood and any markings on the bottom? it might be an early one they did change the HG around a bit.... althrough i dont think the length got changed

is the barrel band screw tight?

Barrel band is tight, but maybe it can go tighter.

It's a plainfield one.

I'll have to check the rivets this weekend if it's still important.

The metal nearest the receiver has been 'mangled' by previous owner. Perhaps a cause, or his attempt at a solution.

also you may have to put a piece of cardboard or somthing on the HG lips to make them tighter
