Most M1 Carbines will run just fine in cold weather, even with a bit of light non detergent oil on them. It's the grease that gets used in the guides for the op rod that causes issues in cold weather. I have found that the only Carbines that give any jamming or function failure in cold weather are those that have minimum spec bolt fitting. It's an easy fix with a bit of lapping compound on the rear of the lug while shooting a hundred or so rounds but it can be a pain for someone not willing to go that route.
I like the spray on Teflon lube. It isn't as tough as Moly but it isn't as messy either.
Carbines were put to their hardest test in the sub-zero Korean winters. They were reliable enough if all grease was removed and they were pretty much run dry. The Garand and Thompson SMGs (usually captured from the Chicoms) were the most reliable cold weather performers.
