M1 carbine mag pouches

I just purchased a WWII mag pouch for my IBM M1 carbine from Elwood Epps and I am having a heck of a time trying to get it to fit. I have asked 2 experienced shooters at our local gun club, and received 2 very different explanations. Does anyone know the correct way to install the mag pouch. Any help would be appreciated.
 
What type? The 2x15 rounder pouch that fits onto the stock or goes on web belt?
 
if its the belt model (later model) it will NOT fit on stock


the us marine pouches fit on the stock mine are all made by boyt 1943 if i recall correctly......

anyways take rifle out of stock

slip pouch on stock mind the button fastener as it can/will scratch your but stockup

put rifle back in stock it may be very hard to get 2 mags in the pouch as it can be tight depending on pouch/stock
 
Both types look the same from the front. All you need now is to get a GI web belt and you are good to go.
 
There are two styles of mag pouches for the M1 carbine they were both meant to go on the belt, but I believe some soldier found out one would fit on the stock and that is where people put them now. The one that works on the stock looks like the pouch in the previous post but the back or belt side of pouch has a fullwidth of material and a snap fastener that matches a snap on the left front of a U.S. web belt. The other style looks the same from the front but the back has two web belt loops and will not work on the stock, this pouch was made for two 15 round M1 carbine mags or two 8 round M1 rifle enbloc clips to be worn on the U.S. web belt.
 
Like BEARMAN says, no mag pouch was made to go on the stock. It's a belt pouch. On the stock puts it in a really awkward place and changes the balance too.
"...anyways take rifle out of stock..." Yep, if you insist on having it on the stock. Put a piece of duct tape on the snap.
 
I guess the reason the mag pouch won't fit on the stock is because it is the one with the 2 belt loops. Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that there were 2 different types, but for $5 I couldn't go wrong. A G.I. web belt seems like a good idea.
