I have a AUTO ORDNANCE M1 CARBINE on the way. Have done some research and there does not seem to be conclusive data on which magazine is the best. I have heard that the M1 does have some FTF issues depending on the magazine. Anyone here have experience with this platform? If so what do you recommend?

Thanks

What ever you buy make sure the mag spring is assembled in the right direction. I bought a bunch over the years and the majority have been installed backwards causing the problem you speak of. Lots of pics on the net on which way it goes. Have had good luck with the mags sold by Corwin.

I bought an IMI M-1 carb about 17 years ago. Except for the stock, receiver and barrel the gun was made of unused x-GI parts. Mine came with one US GI 15 round magazine. At gunshows I've bought a few more US Gov't mags and some S Korean Gov't mags, also 15 rounder's, no problem with any of them. I've never tried any of the 30 round mags, I've read conflicting articles on whether the 30 round mags should be used in M-1 carbines or not, The 30 round mag was intended for the full auto M-2, or so the story goes, and the M-2 is reported to have a beefier magazine latch, or so goes one story, while others say they work just fine. Me, I like the look and feel of the 15 round mags.

I have both 15 and 30 round USGI mags. They all work fine. Of course they're also pinned to 5 rounds so it doesn't really matter for the 30 rounders.

the M2 magazine catch has a leg that grabs the side of the magazine to stabilize it the catch will fit on any usgi trigger housing I have tried the 30/5 rnd mags with and without the m2 catch installed and with the weight of 5rnd found no difference....

I got gi mags imported from fulton iirc by aztech, I really don't like the fake 'bolt hold open' follower of some more recent ones.
KCI ones seem good too, in my plainfield. I have some older mystery ones that have a habit of blowing the base plate off randomly.
