M1 Carbine(?) on Monster Quest

They were looking for a black panther or something killing livestock.
Naturally, they didn't find one.
So that looks like a M1 Carbine, correct?

I'd have to agree. Used to have an M-1 carbine myself.
I don't think I'd go hunting Panthers with it though. A bit under-gunned I'd think

Might be a bit undergunned , but if that's a U.S. show , he may have a thirty round magazine to play with .

Most of the 'sightings' turned out to be big house cats, the dead farm animals I'd place my bet on yotes or wolves.
I don't think wolves or house cats wear heavy clothing so he should be alright
