I've got a question for all the M1 Carbine buffs here, I'm trying to sell a Plainfield Machine Co. M1 and a prospective buyer just asked me a question about the gun that I could not come up with an answer for. I was asked what the manufacturing date was of the Carbine. I have searched the gun for a date but didn't find a stamp anywhere, so I then tried to search using the serial number, but have not been able to find anything on the net to search a Plainfields serial number. I just keep coming up with war time USGI Carbines serial number assignment blocks.
If anybody knows where I can find information on when this Carbine was made it would be appreciated. In the event you might know off hand the serial number is 518XX.
Any information you guys can come up with would be appreciated.
