I blame Fremen for planting this seed in my brain - however now that the damage is done I have no choice but to follow through.

Can anyone tell me the fair market price for a USGI M1 Carbine in G-VG condition and in more or less original confirguation (ie, not bubba'd or Bavarianized)? Maybe $350 - $400?

I am going to order a copy of War Baby from Denner to do my homework but I am just wondering about price first?

thanks very much :)

The obvious question is, "Do you have a 'restricted' ticket?"
"...in G-VG condition..." Haven't seen one in years myself, but you could try the 'Exchange' forum.

Depending, you could double that price, for an excellent one

I have over 40 m1 carbines and ive yet to pay more then 350.00 for one and that was the rarest m1 carbine an Irwin Pedersen

american prices have NO I repeat NO bearing on canadian market
besides the fact MANY m1 carbines are parted out here and sent to the us for big$ (minus the reciever)

check the equip exchange and the local shops and shows they show up all the time

I have carbines that are beat to hell to like new, never used in combat

I sold a "very nice" Winchester M1 Carbine to a friend about 3 years ago, with the markings on the stock and still in it's WWII configuration for around $400.. But hey, he was a fellow collector I knew from the local gunshow....

Paid 400 for mine, a very nice IBM. What a fun rifle, just got back from firing her.

When I was in Knob Creek in fall 2005 there was a guy who must've had 200 of them, all in varying shades of nasty. Dark stained dented wood, pitting, worn finish. Servicable I'm sure but rough. Lowest price I found was 300 american and up to 450!

"...not a war time one..." 99.99% of all U.S. issue carbines went through an arsenal re-build. The BS restricting of the Carbine has driven prices up to stupid levels. Even for commercial copies. It's a sad thing too. Mine is a Plainfield that I wouldn't think twice about grabbing for an unlikely SHTF thing. No surplus ball ammo though.
"...yet to pay more then(sic) 350.00..." Think in terms of half that or less before 1978. My Plainfield cost me about $100Cdn. Issue carbines were few and far between then, but about the same kind of money.
Rumour had it, at the time, that the carbine was put on the restricted list because Montreal bikers were using them for their assorted criminal activities. The Socialist F**ks subsequently made being part of a criminal gang illegal. No round up has ever happened though.
