Not sure if I should post this here or elsewhere. I recently acquired a Plainfield Machinery M1 Carbine. The previous owner had removed the rear sight assembly to install a scope mount. I purchased a adjustable rear sight assembly off the EE and have found that the sight just slides into the rear dovetail with no resistance at all. I have read about “peening” the top of the dovetail on the receiver but I’m a tad nervous about doing that as it looks like some small chips of metal are already missing from the top of the dovetail. Is there any other way to affix the rear sight into the dovetail? Loctite? Epoxy? Anything that could be reversed if I ever needed/wanted to remove the rear sight?

get rifle sighted in

use a small punch with a small tip and peen the SIGHT (move it far left and peen 2x then far right the adjustment I mean each end of the sight gets peened 2x

was the usgi approved method so no worries
