I am trying to decipher all the markings on a Saginaw M1 I recently obtained.
The stock is giving me some trouble and these are the only markings I can see,
The receiver and barrel along with all the other parts are the usual post war rebuild with rotary safety and barrel band with bayonet lug.
The stock appears to be a type V with an early handguard. The "64" appears nowhere else on the rifle. Just on the wood.

That looks like a post-WW2 "perchbelly" M2 Carbine stock. The US military didn't number stocks to the rifle, so it could have been done by a foreign military. Original Saginaw M1 Carbine stocks (they didn't make M2s) can be ID'd with the letters "SG".

All the metal parts are in excellent shape. It looks like it was refurbed then stashed away. Cosmoline still present and no wear to the bluing, even on the bolt. Barrel is excellent and is a Saginaw like the receiver.
No other marks on the metal other than what was stamped when they where made.
Perhaps it is a post war German carbine? Somebody took the time to refurb it. The stock does not look like walnut. I agree with purple in that it is a post war stock with the bulge at the bottom.

your hammer is rock-ola

looks like metal was refinished its darker then GI park...could be your pics too

when your able take it apart and list the markings if you want to know what they are
