Hello guys, a friend would want to sell me an all original m1 carbine but none of us knows the value. He bought it about 30 years ago, and its in great condition with 2 mags. It was made in plainfield, so I guess post war production.
Market has been around $400 for a Plainsfield in very good condition. Not much collector value as they were made for consumers. Good shooting rifles and the early ones were constructed of mostly USGI parts.
Worth a lot more once you buy an 18.5" bbl from tradex and have it installed by a pro. I'd take that combo over an auto ordnance any day. The Plainfield guns actually work like a USGI gun.
They are made by, I think, Criterion. Vulcan Gun has had them forever (5+ years at least) and now Tradex sells them also. Perfect upgrade for a Plainfield gun.
I installed one of the original tradex (dozen yrs ago or so) non restricted barrels on a 42' Underwood. It was short chambered by about .020 thou (and I haven't remedied that yet, I just trim a few 'usable" brass to the required length until I do properly chamber it). My one remaining eye is of not much use for open sight so I did mount a scope on the little gun and am quite satisfied by the 1 MOA at 100 that I get with it (haven't tried anything further). I have shot a couple or three deer with it (the furthest was about 80 yrds) so it was a very satisfying change-over.
