I really dunno! but I would like to learn.
Any good sites on M-1 carbines? One of my friends has a complete Rock-O-La that he wants to sell me. I'm not very sure but I think these were of the most sought after. I'm quite tempted.

there are a few others too
Inland and winchester were the ONLY 2 companies to produce m2 carbines many were hand stamped "2" some over the "1"
for korea/Vietnam many other m1 carbines had the FA parts added to make them m2's some were restamped m2 but most
were not
The m1 and m2 recievers are the EXACT same with the exception of the "1" or "2" stamp

stay away from the universal made carbines GI parts do NOT fit most of them
most aftermarket carbines suck
The plainfields were not too bad and GI parts fit
any USGI carbine will be good the U.S never used corrosive ammo so the bores on most are like new parts do not generally break and thier are TONS of spare parts out there
ammo NO surplus ammo in canada

The Painfield carbines are a commercially made receiver with all GI parts fitted, including barrel and wood most of the time. They were made just afte rthe war, mostly for police contract, etc. but a good number were civilian sales as well. They are basically as god as the GI guns functionally, but hte GI guns have a nicer finished receiver.
All the otehr commercial guns leave a bit to be desired and I would avoid them.
I've had GI and Plainfield guns and both worked great and I would own either again.
I would not buy an Iver Johnson or a Universal. Yuck. And sometimes dangerous too.

A good military friend gave me a Rockola M1 Carbine back in '98. The only problem with it was that the rear sight was a bastardized fitted Canadian SMG sight. Still, it shot like a dream and is very accurate, even with the SMG sight.
I have since picked up a proper M1 Carbine ajustable rear sight but have not installed it yet.
Any thoughts?

look to see if they ####ed up the recievers dovetail slot
if not remove the sight thats in there buy useing a block of wood or a brass punch. TAKE the rife OUT of the stock and strip it 1ST knock the old sight out from the left towards the right
Install the new sight from the right
roughly center it bring gun and tools to range set rear sight up so the adjustments are centered and use brass punch/wood block to position sight as such. once your happy use a sturdy center punch and stake the sight to reciever there should be 4 stake marks all ready

"...Bsa..." BSA didn't make them. U.S. companies only. Nine of 'em. The only difference between them is the numbers made by each company.

ANY govt. made carbine is just as good as any other govt. made carbine. They ALL had to pass inspection. The price difference is in the rarity.
