I recently picked up a universal M1 Carbine post war , from another gunnut ,
it had a few scratches in the finish so decided to strip it and make it look a bit better . here is what it ooked like when i recieved it

i used a paint stripper varnish remover , and it came pretty clean i then gave it a light rubbing with some fine wire wool .
and a few coats of tong oil

then from ebay i got a sling oiler , and a but plate for it , as well as a vietnam era front band baynoet lug.the front sight wasa bugger to get off , i made a tool to remove it , i just copied one that was advertised on ebay for 60 bucs , its haning in the last piccy by the cleaning rod. i got a bona fide genuine reproduction butstock mag pouch , and some 15 /5 mags , and got an awesome deal on ammo from Canadian tire who orderd some .30 carbine in for me , 10 buc a box cheaper than wws ,
and here is the finnished beast .

oh it shoots nice too by the way .
I was contacted by a fellow gun nut from the US who said he had a hand guard for the M1 and if i would send hum a pot of timhortons coffe he would send me it
well deal done , and now the M1 is complete , i have seen many handguards , but all were darker , like how lucky to have found one the right shade . and here she is .

I just Used tung oil on it , a few diluted coats to really soak in , then a few of just tung oil. i was hoping it would be a little darker apparently over time it will darken . but im still pleased with the end result .:D

Looks a LOT better than it did before. Congrats! Any chance you could tell me the product number on that .30 carbine ammo, so I can get my local one to order it for me too?

sadly this particular gunny part of canadian tire goes outside the corp to source amo hence the price difference . James davis is the guys name , at the gun desk canadian tire south end Red deer
