M1 Garand Adjustable Gas plug.

Anyone have an idea on where to find these in Canada? Ive heard commercial ammo puts to much pressure on the op rod. Thanks for the replies.

I've had one of these.

If someone had an extra gas plug they could make their own.

Bore a 1/4" hole through the centre of the plug, tap it 1/4-20.

Get about 5 little allen screws in 1/4-20 and drill varying size tiny holes down the centre of the screw. Try them in till one of them allows the gun to just eject the rounds without pounding the action with your ammo of choice. Or leave the screw out and use the gun as a manual straight pull.

Brownells will ship it but charges an expensive extra fee which is annoying.

What one did your purchase? I've only shot about 20 rounds of Winchester super x 150gr. I greased and oil it before firing and didn't really feel that anything wasn't functioning wrong. Can I ask were you found one?

I don't think they are for sale in Canada. I got lucky finding one for sale on the EE.
Never did try it out though.

Wonder why he said it didn't work?

Considering the number of Garands in Canada...why doesn't someone gear up and sell some home made sets as per my earlier post? Not rocket science.

If the US doesn't want our money we can always keep it up here.

Yes i think I'm going to go the home made route, has anyone ever had an issue firing commercial ammo through there garand?

The issue is that modern powders burn more slowly than the milsurp powders and this causes the pressures in the gas system to be higher than designed for. The result is a possibly bent op rod and unnecessary wear and tear on the action from the pounding the higher pressures produce.

The best option is to reload using appropriate powders to duplicate military loadings, the second best is to use an adjustable gas plug. Aside from being able to duplicate the correct loads, reloading reduces the cost to something closer to reasonable. For that reason alone I never shoot commercial ammo through my Garand.

Yes I agree, I'm new to fairly new to firearms in general and would like to get into reloading eventually, for now I think I'll make one. Mark is your plug adjustable or does it have the different sized holes in the Allen heads?

We are manufacturing these now. They should be ready in 4 weeks. Not taking orders yet but will be a similar but improved design.

Quality steel, hardened, black oxide military finish. Lifetime warranty, made in Canada and sorry we won't ship to the USA.

Priced a great deal less than the US version.
