mfw a decent garand bayonet in the US is $65 (no scabbard) and a rusty ass piece of garbage here is $99 plus shipping. If you get a decent one with a scabbard it is almost $300.

Anyone have any experience with the Chineseum replica ones? are they serviceable or just decorations?

the Chinese one will always be just a Chinese copy. An original will be, well, original and proper to your rifle and will likely go up in value. Did I mention that the other one is just Chinese crap.

As a collector I will buy a lesser condition original item and upgrade to a better original if money and luck in finding it both happen at the right time. I will never intentionally buy a fake.

Not that I know much, but I would buy a fake for looks in a display. I just scored an M1935/export bayonet converted by the Turks to fit a Garand. Not really a fake, nor is it the original type, but it looks good on my 1942 six digit M1. I am not much into bayonets, but I do buy one now and then. :)

Keep looking at gun shows. I just found a nice one and totally complete for $100. They normally range around $150 for a cut down or later war model.

The Chinese ones are just junk. They might look good on the wall but the one I handled didn't feel right and seemed overly cheap. The bluing was way off as well.

Woah. I'm out of touch. Guess I should go dig out the ones I bought as a teenager, if I can figure out what boxes they're in...

I've bought from Liberty Tree Collectors.
No duty, no brokerage, no CBSA charge either. Painless. YMMV.

did you have any issues bringing it in? I have been told NO by all US sources i have contacted.

Edit: I just looked and they are Korean war ones. This is perfect as my Garand is from that period. I will be ordering one when i get a reply back from the store.

There are no export restrictions on bayonets - I've ordered a few from various places in the US, and upwards of a dozen from the UK.

On the other hand, Liberty Tree refuses outright to sell gun stocks to Canadians...

The Chinese, Walmart-style, re-pops look pretty cheesy. Prices on both original M1 and M1905 bayonets and scabbards have sure gone up though. These 2 models will fit both an M1 Garand and an M1903 Springfield.

I once bought an M1 bayonet from a Lebanese smuggler on top of Mt Hermon. They'd brought it up there on mules along with other $hit like fake Rollies and T Shirts with the idea of flogging stuff to UN troops. The Leb army was once equipped with a lot of WW2 vintage US equipment. Christian Lebanese elements even got cast-off Sherman tanks from the Israelis.
