M1 garand clip latch

This is a "standard" Garand malfunction which can be caused by a number of things:

-worn clip detents-try another clip
-weak clip latch spring-replace spring
-worn clip latch-replace clip latch
-bent follower rod-replace follower rod
-worn follower rod forks-replace follower rod
-worn operating rod catch-replace op rod catch
worn follower arm-replace follower arm
follower rod rubs clip latch-replace follower rod, clip latch,or op rod catch

I would try replacing the clip latch spring first(least expensive). Also ensure that critical points are lubed with proper grease.Garands can be frustrating sometimes.Recently had a problem with one failing to engage the clip.I swapped out all related parts until I found that the follower rod was the cause-not in the malfunction "book"

The bullet guide is the most likely cause of this problem IMO. if the the fulcrum is worn then everything is out of time. A timing block would help you
diagnose the cause of the problem. Brownells sells them. They also pop up on ebay quite often.

A bullet guide will cost you $12 from Marstar. $5.95US plus shipping from Gunparts. The M-1 is not on the U.S. government's restricted list.
