Hi. Just looking at a 1944 SA Garand possibly for purchase but had a couple of questions. First, there is a fair bit of exterior barrel pitting above the chamber and forward under the removable portion of stock. Maybe a couple mm deep in places at worst. (Tried to post a pic but failed) Also, it failed the bullet test as one slips in fairly easy in the muzzle end. Both of these seem more common than I thought after researching around. Price is a couple grand which seems a bit steep as well for this condition. Operating rod also has a slight bend but action cycles smooth manually - haven't fired because of concern about pitting. Everything else seems fairly reasonable but perhaps I should be looking for specific areas? Appreciate any thoughts you may have.
Thanks
