M1 Garand Disassembly Help

I received my first ever M1 Garand today in the mail and haven't been able to keep my hands off of it. I am trying to disassemble it but I am having trouble where you have to pull down and out on the rear of the trigger guard. I can't seem to get it to work. Does it just take alot of force to move or is there some special technique?

IOf you have the milled trigger guard instead of the stamped one, just insert a section of cleaning rod in the hole on the milled one and pull back and up.
