Ok I just acquired an M1 Garand:D which needs some help. It needs a new barrel because the riffling is shot out and the barrel is bent. How hard would it be for me to install a new barrel? Is it difficult to remove the old barrel, are there any special tools needed and what needs to be done to headspace the rifle properly?

Thanks

You would need a barrel vice and receiver wrench and a headspace reamer. If you want to do this more than once, buy the tools. If you are just going to rebuild this one, get someone to do if for you. Depending on where you are you can probably get help from someone on these boards. You might cross post this to the Main Battle Rifles forum as the vice and wrench are the same as those for the M-14 and I know there are lots of guys who work on the M-14.

The Marstar website has Post War Breda M1 Garand barrel for $89.95. They have them listed as in stock! Although I will have to call to see if they still have them.
