M1 Garand & IMR 4064

Any 150 or 155 gr bullet will work well in a Garand with 48 gr IMR 4064. Ive shot this load in probably 50- 60 different Garands. It's safe, reliable and accurate. OAL 3.280 works well.

You can consult any number of reloading manuals and find this load within limits. Incidentally, the 150 gr Hornady FMJ is available in bulk and is an accurate bullet. I use the Hornady 150 gr soft point boat tail in my .308 and .30-06 bolt rifles and have found it to be an excellent hunting bullet.

I prefer a FMJ or match bullet in Garand, but also shoot the polycarbonate tipped hunting bullets like the Nosler ballistic tip and the Hornady SST. They eliminate the possibility of point deformation with a lead tipped bullet and feed reliably. Ii carry a Garand with 165gr Hornady SST handloads when doing crop damage claims in remote areas.

Me too.

Semi autos are not gentle in their handling of exposed lead tips. I was loading the 165 grain SST and a moderate, not maxed out load of H4895 for the Garand and some whizbang max loads in nickel cases for my Win 70.

Hunting time came around and I couldn't find the box of hunting loads. Oops, left em at a bud's house.

Guess what? The "downloaded" stuff dropped Bullwinkle just fine lol.

These loads only duplicate military spec. velocities for the given bullet weight, using commercial cases and
powders. If you are using military cases, drop all charges by 2 grains.
