M1 Garand mag support???!!!

One of the conversions in the link has a gas block that looks not unlike that of an Erquiaga M-62.

I dunno, but a Tipo2 Garand in 7.62 with an 8 rd clip seems to beat a frankengarand with a blocked 5 rd mag. Then there's always room for experimentation with a Garand in .458 Win mag..458 Win garand.jpg

That's not how it works. If it's an M1 Garand, it's always an M1 Garand, no matter what you do to it. The only ways to turn a Garand Prohibited are to make it full auto or cut it too short.

X2 as stated the BM 59 is a F/A variant of an M1 which is why it is named in the FRT, you can make all the modifications to an M1 to accept the BM parts EXCEPT THE F/A MODS AND PARTS and it will still be an M1 and non restricted providing barrel length is maintained. if one were to modify and attach the BM F/A parts it would then be a F/A m1 and prohib, still would not be a BM59.

It appears that the italians made 19.25 inch barreled m1 garand rifles
The problem is no one makes the barrel or is willing to convert barrels to this length

So you're telling me if you take an M1 garand, and do the exact same modifications the Italians did to make their BM59. You wouldn't make a BM59 you just have a modified Garand? I don't think it works that way.
Oh yes it does still remain a M1 Garand . As for getting parts kits from the US good luck many of the components are blocked under ITAR for shipment from THE US . SARCO and Nuremberg do ship parts Kits outside of the US

If it aint broke dont fix it.
If you are going to modify your garand spend the money and buy good aftermarket 308,or 7.62 barrel and be happy. You wont need a shorter op rod and you will maintain the 8rd enblock.
It is much faster to load an enbloc pingy than to change a mag. ! Now if i could build another in 223 that would be really interesting.
my 2 cents

You want to modify a Garand to make it a AR-15 like rifle?

You can get a lot of the BM 59 Parts off of Ebay as for the barrels Check out AZ armory they cross border ship .

there is People who like a nice pc of wood and there is those people who do not like anything nice

if it's a M1 Garand ......... it hast be WOOD

even a pc of beaver bark wood on a garand ...... its still a nice Garand

I have always toyed with the idea of turning a Garand into a race gun for action events with the following modifications,

- convert to 22-250 with a shorter barrel
- 22-250 should work pretty smooth as it's still based of a 30-06 cartridge and loads in enblocs rather well
- compensator (22-250) will provide plenty of gas to run a comp
-fatty goes on a diet (remove as much steel / wood as possible,
-play with spring tension / mechanism to assist with faster reloads,
-re-work (weld/machine/polish) the top of the receiver to work in a bit of a mag well for the enbloc clips
-aimpoint mounted forward of the magazine
- serious trigger work

you can not make a garand run any faster with out lots of $$ and lots of spare parts

its a long action and will always be a Long action ... and with a long oprod and a long spring

not a lot of places where you could shave off weight M1 Garand they weigh 9 to 9-1/2 pounds

?? custom titanium metal bits .... carbon fiber stock ????

its a Classic wood stock rifle the only way to make it better is a another coat of BLO
