M1 Garand op rod crack

Could this be a crack in the op rod or just a machine cut ?

Looks like a machine mark to me. Or something got stuck between the barrel and opeod and some point.

I think so too. In the last picture although you cannot really tell the mark/cut does not continue through the relief cut. Thanks

Machining mark. Never seen them crack in that way. If you flex the oprod you should be able to see a crack expand.

Thank you, I tried that and the mark does not expand.

Maybe try a homemade Dye Penetrant test.
Let a drop of light oil soak in for several minutes, then wipe absolutely clean.
Then dust it with icing sugar or flour, etc.

This appears to be a surface imperfection rather than a crack. A good way to test for a crack in metal is to immerse or douse the area in gasoline or a quick evaporating solvent. If it is a crack the solvent will evaporate from the surrounding metal and remain visible in the crack.
