Forget the carbine, unless you're a lady, get the real shabang my friend m1 all the way!
Got the RPAL? All milsurp and commercial carbines that don't have a longer than 18.5" barrel are restricted. There are some with 19" barrels that are not restricted though. Trick is finding one. Learn something about 'em, both milsurp and commercial copies(not all are true copies) before you buy. Go here. http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/
M1 Rifles are not, of course. Best to learn something about them too. There are a lot of junk M1 Rifles out there that sellers think are worth the same money as one in decent condition. I've seen pure junk at gun shows with an asking price of close to $800.
Where you are matters.
"...unless you're a lady..." I know some big, hairy, guys who would take umbrage at glib comments like that.
