Okay you M1 Garand owners:

I've neglected you all for a few years, and catered to the M14 lovers. I just encountered a pile of new Citadel barrels over at www.ellwoodepps.com, one of our board sponsors. They sell for the killer price of $ 200 (taxes extra) :eek: and frankly, that's a great price. They are not paying me a dime for this plug. I just wanna get you M1 owners in on a chance to rebarrel and shoot yer own .308 M1 Garand.

So here's the deal:

* Go and buy one (better yet, buy TWO of them) barrel
* PM me and book an appt to arrange your private M1 Garand clinic at my shop
* This is for you Bantario M1 Garand lovers.
* If you are outside this wonderful McSquintyland province, we can make arrangements.
* YOU do the work and I supervise YOU with my "Finger of authority." :D

What's it gonna cost you? Gas money to drive to me in Collingwood, and a steak at Kelsey's. ;)

This is an extension of the Hungry M14 clinic series, except it's over July and August and in my basement. I'm a bit tired after having completed 8 clinics this school year :eek: already. It's June now :dancingbanana: And I'm ready for summer !!

Why would I put a $200 hundred dollar barrel on a very nice M1 that shoots very accurately in 30/06 and I paid $99.00 for?
This is a version of Bubba.
Now if one picked up one of the M1 Receivers at lever, or milarm and put the barrel on It would not be Bubba...
 
People are free to do whatever they want with their guns,no matter the opinion of the rest of us. Some gun owners are highly anal collectors who fancy themselves as custodians of history,while others are simply shooters,and there are many of us who fall between between these extremes.
 
The first M-1 that I bought had a deeply scored chamber that likely resulted from a screwdriver being used to dig out a separated case. I guess I should have preserved this rifle in its unserviceable condition, to keep it original.:rolleyes:
It really depends on the rifle, doesn't it? Of course, rebarrelling a red band M-1 would be ridiculous. But there are a lot of M-1s out there with ratty bores. Over 90% of rifles that remained in US inventory were refurbished, often more than once. There are very, very few absolutely original, never altered M-1s out there. A rebarrelled shooter might be more desireable than a cobbled together, all matching parts specimen.
We picked up a couple of these barrels today. They aren't newly arrived, they have had them for a while. Certainly worth salting away against the day that one might be needed. Might go nicely on my 3rd grade $125 Dane.
 
Citadel barrels are very good. I had two garands in .308 and both shot 2"-3" groups with surpluss ammo, without reloading even.

Are these standard contour or heavy?

Well, I'm hoping Epps will try to get more in because a .308 barrel adds some cool factor (just my 2 cents) even if .30-06 brass is found all over my home range from the hunters sighting in their rifles in the fall.
 
Just an aside, I have a non-restricted M1 "Tanker" (18.5) in 308. IIRC it's on a Springfield, redone by Federal Ordnance.

I had some initial issues with this Garand carbine, (due to the rebuild, not the design) but now, it feeds/fires/reloads, like it was made for this NATO round.

It is a loud little rifle though, especially with the Smith Enterprizes muzzle brake.

FYI, I have ONE new Krieger GI contoured parkerized CM Garand match barrel with a .308 port and short chamber. This barrel cost me roughly $460 US to bring in for a customer that lost his job.

I have been sitting on the thing for a year.

first $400 CDN takes it..., you pay shipping.
