Guess?
I was disassembling my M1, inorder to try the synth stock I just got, but I was stymied by the rear band. I followed the disassembly instructions found on surplusrifle.com, which work well, but the little pin that is supposed to be tapped out is either not there or I am missing something. It looks like there is a pinhole straight through the pin, if it is there, but I cannot be sure. Is there a small hole in this pin?

The band will not come off, so something must be holding it on...Any ideas?

Its a rolled pin (hole in the middle), you need a slightly over-sized punch to get it out.

You can grind a nail flat, it needs to be big enough to rest on the rim of the pin. If it goes into the center hole it will expand the pin and it will never come out. Just tap it gradually and carefully and no damage will be done.

Thanks JP.

I was cursing the rifle to no end last night, and myself, because I didn't have anything to fit the hole, yet the whole time I was working on the rifle, the grinder was staring me in the face! :D:onCrack:

ATTENTION!!!!! YOU WITH THE GARAND!!!!
STEP AWAY FROM THE GRINDER!!!!

Get in your car drive to the nearest Canuck tire and buy, with your CT bucks a punch set(and I don't mean boxing gloves)...there should be several different sizes and one of them should fit just fine. The oyther guys were correct in saying that pin is a roll pin and does appear ot be hollow. You need a punch that will fit the way JP had said it should fit.
Cheers

Thanks, I needed that!! :D:D

I meant I was going to grind the nail to fit....but I will search out the punch set. Believe me, after a couple of "SOFT" whacks, I stopped and reassembled the rifle. While I am an Enfield nut now, I LOVE my M1 and will not damage it.

I double the punch set idea. I was trying to get a roll pin out of my AR a few weeks ago with a allen key after a few 8-10 hits it wasn't coming out at all. So I hit up Princess Auto and bought a punch set 3 hit with the hammer and it was out. The punch set is a good idea, it'll assist with other projects aswell.
