As I don't know much about Garand, long and short a friend and I were trying to make a deal on the rifle. I noticed that the very rear of the receiver has a couple cracks in it. Now I don't feel safe to shoot it as the cracks are quite large and are what likely stops the action from hitting my face. My question is such a crack possible to fix or would it need a new receiver. If it can be fixed how.

If you value your face and eye's do not ever shoot, or attempt to repair that receiver, it is done...toast....ruined.

[Made in the U.S.A .... :)
On the bright side this thing s getting binned befrore it maims anybody.
Im cheap, but I would NOT have that repaired by God himself....bin it

Replace it because life is to short for a trip to the hospital. I had a TRW bolt split at the ejector and when I tapped the op rod back, it came out in two pieces. The receiver was fine, sent it back to Springfield to be certain. It is an early gun, all gi parts except for the receiver. They replaced the bolt with another TRW, so I wonder everytime I shoot it!!! That's why I use a Norc and hope nothing happens!

That should be a one in a million occurence. TRW bolts are good bolts. If it had been a MIM or cast part I'd say otherwise.

That being said, I'll mime the general opinion on that garand reciever, strip it, use the parts and use the reciever for a paperweight, or as a piece to practice finishing/refinishing on. Its junk, and life is too short and parts too plentiful to gamble using it again.
