If you want to shoot any bullet/load/powder combinations in your Garand, you need to install a gun gas regulator from www.mccainindustries.com, which will set you back about US $ 40.-, plus shipping and duty.

I like Win 760 with a 150gr bullet. Powder has a good burning rate for Garand action and is within the same range of burning rate as other good garand powders. A can is usually a few dollars cheaper per pound and might be a factor depending on how much you shoot. I think the original bullet weights garands were designed for were 150gr and 170gr.

Target shooting? Use 168 grain match bullets and IMR4064. IMR4064 seems to give better accuracy than IMR4895.
A 165 or 168 hunting bullet with the same powder will do nicely for any game.
The M-1 Rifle was designed to use .30M1 ammo with a 174.5 grain BT bullet at 2647fps. .30M2 ammo, with a 152 grain flat based bullet, came along in 1939 and its muzzle velocity was subsequently increased from 2700fps to 2800fps in 1940 to match the ballistics of the .30AP ammo.

However, if you want to experiment with a greater spectrum of bullet/powder combinations in a Garand, installing a gun gas regulator is important, in order not to damage it's gas operating mechanisme.
Another advantage of the Garand gun gas regulator is that one can easily disingate the automatic gas cycle of the Garand, and thus turn the Garand into a slide action rifle, if so desired, an advantage during target shooting
